Marine Still Life

I joined Anna for a shoot out in the archipelago, outside of Stockholm, last thursday. We were on a small island named Möja – and there were a lot of little boat houses, delivery trikes and other picturesque things. It was a stressful day, we had few hours to create a lot of images – but I managed to snap a few still lifes with my phone. I really liked the shapes and colors of what I saw. I just had to take the time to photograph it.

Had I know when editing, that I’d run these two images together, I might have edited the net to be more blue like the door on the picture on the right – but oh well :)

Meringues & Cupcakes

I really want to take some bright, lovely photos of desserts for my portfolio – cupcakes to be more specific. I knew that my cousin Michelle often bake and that she’s rather good at making pretty cupcakes, so I asked her if she wanted to help out and she did! So did my younger cousin Hannah – the meringues below is her own recipe that she’d made and wanted me to photograph. They were both pretty and delicious!

Michelle’s lovely nails fitted perfectly with the cute, pastel style of the cupcakes so her hands got to model as well! I’m really pleased with the results and I feel these images are a nice addition to my portfolio.

Inspirational Paraphrase

So today in class, we showed 6-10 inspiring pictures we like. Then we got an assignment to take something from 3 of those pictures to create a new one. These are the three ones I chose:

From the left one, I decided to pick the whole “shoot-through-glass” thingy, from the one in the middle I chose the color tones and model (sort of) and from the third one (to the right) I decided to choose the fact that it’s natural/ambient light as well as the crop, so I decided to crop my model a bit below the shoulders.

Here is my final picture which I took today, with my dear Emmie as a model (thank you for participating on such a short notice!):

Nikon D7000 + Nikkor 50mm f/1.8, ambient light only.

Now, mine is a bit darker in the tones than the pic in the middle, cause well.. it was dark when I took it and I wanted to keep my style to it, and I liked this better than that light blue color. This picture is a bit different from what I usually do, probably cause we had so little time to plan it – and thus little time to hesitate and question my idea which led to me taking a series of pictures (more to come from this shoot later on) that I would never have taken otherwise. I really like this one, and the other pictures I took, as well – so in the end I’m glad we got the assignment (first I was just pissed and stressed).

Ps: looking at it now, at my blog, it feels a little bit too blue, maybe. I’m not sure. I’ll keep it like this for now. Ds.

Something new, and something blue.

Shot at the same day as this series. Kudos to Sanna for going into the water. This was all very new to me. I’ve never shot someone in water before, it was hard to direct her cause of course she couldn’t do everything one can on land. Her hair got in the way or looked wrong, so did the dress. So she had to keep track of all of that, while trying to float and look good at the same time, not easy I’ll tell ya! I also wish I would’ve had my reflector with me, cause the sun created some pretty harsh shadows in her face which I do not like very much, but there’s also not much to do about that now.
