Paperblanks Feature

Paperblanks is a brand that makes the most beautiful, personal dayplanners and journals – I love them, I have since the first time I saw them. One of their staff recently found me on my instagram when I showed these pictures - where I used some of my Paperblanks journals as prop.

That find led to them posting my picture on their instagram, and also a feature on their blog!!!

They often write about different artist and their craft, where they find inspiration and how they use their own Paperblanks journals. So, I got an interview – a few questions to answer and that combined with some pictures of my Paperblanks journals is now up on their blog for everyone to read – and it feels amazing! I am so glad I got this opportunity, and that they wanted to feature me. It truly feels great!

I would never have dared to think, when I first saw the shelves with all the loveliness of Paperblanks in the bookstore – that I would one day be on their blog, featured as a photographer. Incredible!

Head over to their blog and read the interview/feature – and please tell me what you think!

What I’ve been up to lately

raniamaria@instagram

I’ve started eating breakfast out at the balcony, since it’s so hot outside now. I had a spontanious shoot with Astrid yesterday. I’ve been out in the sun a lot, and been out in Gothenburg super early in the morning after a LAN-Party. I’ve felt pretty good looking (haha) but mostly I’ve been playing Diablo III :D !

Today I started editing some pictures of Astrid, trying out new editing techniques and such – I am very pleased with the results! For this series, I’ll go with the style/colors to the left :)

What is the matter? Afraid of temptation?

So, a few weeks (more like a month or more..) me and my photographic group I’m part (and co creator) of drew a theme out of a hat, and that theme was temptation. After a lot of pondering, different try-outs and some editing, this is my contribution and interpretation of that theme. I am not 100% content with this but.. it’ll do.

Self portrait using my Nikon D7000 + Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 and a tripod and remote,. then edited using Photoshop CS5.

A little something about me

So, my name’s Rania, it’s greek and has it’s origins in one of the seven greek muses named Ourania who guarded over astrology/the sky. I’m 22 winters old and live in a rainy little town in the southern parts of Sweden, I study photography, hang out with my friends, play computer games, read a lot of books, drink too much coffé and just.. enjoy life.

I was a bit different as a kid, more of a ” tomboy” and I had a hard time getting along with everyone in my class [since I moved to the town I live in now, I was nine then]. I wanted to climb trees and play Power Rangers while they wanted to jump rope and play horses [which I agreed too if I could be a ghosthorse]. I’ve always doodled and drew a lot, in my books and stuff, I was always more creative and had a hard time with things like math and shit [hasn't changed]. I am still “different”, I think, but I see that as good thing now a days. I stand up for who I am, and what I think about things in life. I do not hide my personality or opinions while down town or amongst people [I might tone certain parts down if necessary]. I ponder and brood a lot, over a lot of things but I’m still very down to earth. I have no troubles in seeing things from a objective perspective, I’m also very realistic and I give advice to people in a objective and realistic way as well. It’s a bit harder to act like that when it comes to my own troubles though haha!  I really like to listen to people though, talk with them about stuff and try to help them – one of the many attributes I have due to  being pisces.

I am down to earth and a realist, but I still like to daydream and travel away in my mind, when I read, think or listen to music. It’s the same when i photograph – which is my greatest passion in life. I come alive when I photograp. I am my own boss, and I photograph everything, even the small things in life cause it helps me remember and to fully live. I completely forget about time, if I am hungry and things like that when I photograph – it’s a great feeling!

I am also very positive, especially amongst folks. No matter how bad I feel, or no matter how tired – I always keep my good mood up and I have fun and I’m happy with my friends and the ones I love. I am very emotional though [also due to being pisces] and generous [I'd like to think at least]. I give a lot to and for others, I engage easily in their stories, problems and feelings and sometimes I neglect myself and what I feel, while doing so. Once alone though, which I really enjoy being from time to time [especially out in the nature], I allow myself to brood over stuff, and get a bit low-spirited.

I need to be alone sometimes. Alone at home, or take a walk by my self, sit in the forrest. I live very central which is nice – I can walk almost everywhere, no need to take the bus or to get a drivers licence [will never happen?!]. But to sit down and listen to the sounds of the nature, or watch a city with it’s lights and sounds, on a warm summernight.. maybe even in the rain. Sometimes I even bring a candle and sit down and just relax, let all my feelings go.. I scream or cry or enjoy everything – it’s so soothing for the spririt!

I love the nature, it’s always there and you can count on it. When everything else feels hopeless. It’s beautiful in it’s own way, in every season. It inspires me and I feel good while walking or being near it. I try to keep a very nature-inspired/down to earth feeling in my photos and I almost always use natural light and surroundings, I prefer that over shooting in a studio any time! Nature is also a source of inspiration when it comes to my style in how I look, clothing etc, as well as my interior design in my room. A little bit wild, natural and bohemian.

I am, despite liking to be alone, a very social person and I really enjoy social gatherings with my friends and family [or even random people!]. To cook a great dinner and eat and drink with friends. Go for a walk, talk alot or grab a coffé [which can last for a few hours] is just.. I love it. I have an addiction for coffé. I get a headache if I go to long without it, but I get stomach ache if I drink too much – but it’s just so tasty!

Well, enough of my rambling, time for some more structured facts about me;

  • I’ve been photographing more seriously since 2008, when I bought my first DSLR.
  • I have 10 piercings [4 in each ear, one in my nose and one in my belly button] as well as 3 tattoos.
  • I collect Gloomy Bears, japanese designer”toys” by Mori Chak.
  • I love cats and I want at least one
  • I HATE talking on the phone, I almost have a phobia. Can’t even order pizza…
  • I love birds, both real ones and in art and desig and stuff. Mostly crows and owls!
  • I’m interested in mythology and some spiritual/pagan stuff [origin stuff, celtic festivals, the use of candles and such].
  • I do not believe in a certain God or higher power, I belive in the forces of nature/mother earth and that our actions have consequenses, and in life itself. Karma perhaps?
  • I’m such a crybaby, I can cry to a book, movie or immediately if I get really angry or sad.
  • I am very nerdy and play alooot of video -and computer games! [which you'll notice if you keep reading my blog]

Well then, now you’ve read some stuff about me, of which was probably most unnecessary and uninteresting hah. I hope you’ve learned a bit more about me though, and that you do not find me weird all of a sudden ;D
